Martin Luther King Day Service Events

headshot of MLKIn celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy, Marygrove will participate in the following events on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012:

Marygrove’s Annual King Day Rally and March
At Noon, we will gather in front of the Liberal Arts Building for our annual King Day Rally and March around the campus; followed by refreshments and reflections in the Florent Gillet Residence Hall Community Room.  This annual event welcomes students, staff and our neighboring community.

MLK Service, City-Wide Rally and March
9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
At 9:00 a.m., we will depart from the Madame Cadillac Building to go to St. Dominic Outreach Center at 4835 Lincoln St., to assist the Center in its work to help the poor and homeless.

We will have lunch at the Center and proceed downtown to the city-wide Martin Luther King Rally [A Tribute to the Women of SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) and march for jobs, justice and peace at Central United Methodist Church, across from the Fox Theatre. We will return to Marygrove after the march around 3:30 p.m.

Collegiate MLK Day of Service
7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Marygrove College will participate in a Collegiate MLK Day of Service with the United Way of Southeast Michigan, Henry Ford Community College, Davenport University, Oakland County Community College, the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Wayne State University.

At 7:30 a.m. we will depart from the Madame Cadillac Building to the kickoff at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  Transportation will be provided via the Marygrove mini bus. Continental breakfast, lunch and t-shirts will be provided at no cost to students.
